Description
Cadbury Cottage is a house dating from the mid-19th century, situated on Fore Street, Culmstock. Constructed of plastered stone rubble, potentially with brick dressings, it has stone rubble stacks topped with 19th-century brick and a slate roof. The house follows a two-room plan with a central entrance hall and staircase facing north onto Fore Street. A tall carriageway runs through the property to the east, and a third first-floor chamber is situated above it, served by a gable-end stack. The other main rooms have one or more rear lateral stacks. The front elevation has a three-window arrangement of original sash windows; the ground-floor windows are larger, with 16 panes, while the first-floor windows have 12 panes. To the east is a carriageway with large, mid-19th century double plank doors with wrought iron strap hinges, with a window above. The remaining section of the front, covering two windows, is symmetrical around a central front doorway, featuring a mid-19th century six-panel door with an overlight, all set beneath a low segmental arch. The roof is gable-ended on the left side and runs continuously with the roof of the adjoining contemporary Cadbury House. The interior has not been inspected but the well-preserved exterior suggests a good amount of original joinery detail remains. Cadbury Cottage was likely built during the refurbishment of adjoining Cadbury House and together they form part of a group of listed buildings near the Church of All Saints.
