Description
No. 44 East Street is a house with a shop, built in the late 19th century or early 20th century. It features a solid rendered front and a slated roof, standing two storeys high. The façade has two widely spaced windows in a classical style. The ground floor has a shop front in the centre, flanked by two large round-arched openings: the house door is to the right and a cart entrance is to the left. The shop front includes four transom lights, each with two panes of coloured leaded glass. The house door is five-panelled and has a small-paned fanlight with mullions. The cart entrance features double plank doors. The upper storey windows are segmental-headed, adorned with vermiculated keystones and flanking pilaster-strips, and contain paired sashes, with the upper sashes having six panes. The building is topped with a coved eaves-cornice and is included for its group value.
