Description

A terrace of three houses stands on East Street in Ashburton, dating to the early 19th century. The front and left side walls are rendered, likely over a timber frame. The rear walls of numbers 32A and 32B, and the right side wall, are slate-hung. The roofs are slate, with a hipped form on the left. Rendered brick chimneys are visible. The houses are arranged over three storeys, with each house originally featuring a single window on the front, although number 34 has a two-window return to Woodland Road. Numbers 32A and 32B share an adjacent doorway with a doorcase consisting of three pilasters supporting an entablature. The door has half-glazed panels and a flush lower panel. A raised band is present at first floor level. Pilaster strips divide the front into two bays, with the heads of the strips broadened into bracket-like shapes. Number 34 has a shop front, possibly original, with a three-paned display window and a door flanked by pilasters, topped with an entablature. All three houses originally had eight-paned sash windows in flush frames; the left side of number 34 has two eight-paned sashes and one six-paned sash. A deep, bracketed eaves cornice runs along the front and left side. The rear of numbers 32A and 32B has six-paned sash windows.
