Description

Abbotswell House is a house dating from around 1860, currently used as a retirement home. The building is rendered with a slate roof that has gabled ends and features stacks with rendered shafts. It has a double-depth plan, consisting of two rooms wide with a set-back block on the right end.

The exterior presents a symmetrical three-bay front with deep eaves and a Tuscan porch that includes an entablature with a dentil cornice. The entrance features a six-panel door with a plain overlight, and there are four-pane hornless sash windows, two of which are located on the ground floor.

Although the interior has not been inspected, it is likely to be of interest. Notable subsidiary features include contemporary cast-iron railings in front of the house, which have pierced spear finials. There is also a short section of ramped rendered wall at the left end, along with square-section gate piers that have sunk mouldings, moulded cornices, and pineapple finials to the right of the front elevation.
