Description

Lochturffin is a house built around 1860, featuring unpainted render and a hipped slate roof with two stacks on the rear ridges. The front of the house is two stories high with three windows, which have hornless 12-pane sashes. The central entrance has a two-panel door with an overlight, set within a Roman Doric porch supported by two columns and topped with a painted timber entablature. Slate sills are present beneath the windows. The south end wall has two windows similar to the front, while the north end wall includes a long stair-light. There is a one-window range in the southwest rear return, and slate paving surrounds the front and south side walls.

At the rear, there is a roughcast wing of similar height, which is three stories tall and has a three-window south front. This wing features four-pane sashes on the main floors and 12-pane sashes on the top floor, along with ridge and west end stacks. It is said that this rear wing incorporates an earlier two-story farmhouse.

Attached to the west side of the house is a two-story outbuilding from the 19th century, constructed of rubble stone with brick heads over the lower openings and square upper loft windows located under the eaves. The front wall of this outbuilding has been buttressed with steel supports in 1992.

Inside, the house retains mid to late 19th-century fireplaces and features pierced cast-iron balusters on the staircase.
