Description

No. 7 Fletcher's Alley is a detached house located at the rear of a burgage plot, originally two cottages, dating from the 17th century with a 19th-century refronting. The building features a square panel timber frame with plaster panels, painted Flemish bond brickwork, and a tile roof with a brick lateral stack. It is a small two-storey property oriented with its gable facing the alley.

The entrance front on the north side has a small two-light casement window on the first floor and three two-light casements on the ground floor, one of which has 18th-century moulded glazing bars, all flanking a plank door. The south side, faced in brick, has two windows, with 20th-century casements on the first floor and four-pane sashes below. A large brick stack is centered at the eaves. The gable facing the alley is made of painted brick and has one small casement window, while the opposite gable, in unpainted brick, displays some framing and the projecting cut-off end of a large spine beam at the first floor ceiling.

The interior is not accessible but is said to have undergone significant modifications. This building is a relatively rare example of a structure set across the site rather than parallel with the alley, indicating it was likely a substantial building before the 19th-century alterations.
