Description
No. 51 High Street is a house in a row, dating from the 17th century with a front that was altered in the early to mid 18th century. The building features a timber-frame structure with a front made of Flemish bond brickwork and a tiled roof. It has three storeys and a basement, with a three-windowed facade. The windows are 9-pane over 12-pane sashes that have thick bars and near-square panes, set beneath brick voussoirs and projecting brick keystones, with three-course brick string courses above and stone cills below. There is a basement grille set in a deep plinth. On the ground floor, there are two sashes, and to the left, a flush-panelled door is framed by a moulded architrave, leading to a modelled frieze and closed pediment. This door opens into a throughway that features a box-framed wall with brick nogging to the right. The building has a coped parapet, a hipped roof, and a large stack on the right that rises above the ridge of the adjoining Tudor House Hotel. The interior has not been inspected.
