Description
49 and 49A High Street is a house in a row, featuring an early 19th-century front built on 17th-century fabric. The building has Flemish bond brickwork, timber-framing, and a tiled roof. The front is brick with a parapet, leading to a hipped tile roof supported by a framed structure, with a brick back wing and a throughway on the left. No. 49A is accessed from Clarks Alley, located to the right, under the adjoining building. The house is two storeys high with two windows. It has 16-pane sash windows set in brick voussoirs, fluted keystones, a cornice, and stone cills. There is a late 19th-century shopfront featuring pilasters, a fascia, and three paired console brackets. On the left, there is an arched opening leading to a set-back 20th-century door. The top eight courses of brickwork have been rebuilt or repointed and feature concrete coping. No chimney stack is visible. The interior has not been inspected.
