Description

This is a house in a row, dating from the 16th century and refronted in the 18th century. It is timber-framed with brick nogging, a rendered and scribed front, and tile and slate roofs with brick stacks. The main block is attached to an earlier timber-framed wing with a steeply pitched tiled roof and lower framed wings.

The front of the building is three storeys high and has two windows. Replacement plain sashes are present at the second floor, while the first floor has eight-pane sashes, all with stone cills. The ground floor features a 19th-century pilaster shop front, with a prominent awning, cornice, and a late 20th-century fascia. A throughway, Cares Alley, is located on the left side and contains a 20th-century plank door with a peaked chamfered head and a bracket supporting the jetty. The rear of the main building features a high rendered parapet. The throughway is paved in brick and has three heavy beams; a door on the left leads to No. 44. The interior has not been inspected.
