Description

No. 41 High Street is a house located at the end of a row, dating from the mid to late 18th century, although some brickwork from the 17th century can be found in the rear wing. The building features Flemish bond brickwork, a tile roof, and a brick stack. The front block is lofty and has a parapet that connects to a rear gabled wing, which is likely older. The house has three storeys and three windows. The windows on the upper floors are 12-pane sashes set within brick voussoirs that have keystones decorated with urns on the second floor and a floral pattern on the first floor, all with stone cills. The ground floor has a late 20th-century shop front that has been altered, obscuring the former windows, although some keystones and voussoirs are still visible. To the left of the shop front is a replica six-panel door set in a pilaster doorcase with a fluted frieze and a closed pediment. Above the ground floor, there is a plain plat-band, and above the stone modillion cornice, there is a blocking course and a coped parapet. The parapet extends to the right, where there is a plain gable wall with an external brick stack. Attached to the back wing is a stepped-down link unit that has three storeys and two windows, featuring wide flush lights with segmental heads. The back wall rises to a coped parapet with a hipped roof at this end. The interior has not been inspected.
