Description
The gazebo located in the garden of Number 51 High Street in Tewkesbury is a late 18th-century structure with significant late 20th-century additions. It features Flemish bond brickwork on the front and English bond on the sides, all made with large bricks, topped by a plain tile roof. This small square building has a pyramid roof and is elevated from Red Lane on an earlier retaining wall, which may be part of the medieval town wall. The gazebo is two stories high and has one window on each level, showcasing a bold canted oriel with 12-pane sash windows on three sides, supported by two curved wooden brackets. The plain brick sides include a brick stack on the right. Despite the large rear extension, this gazebo is a rare example of the distinctive group of gazebos that once existed in Tewkesbury. It offers views across the waters of the Mill Avon and Old Avon to the surrounding countryside, with other similar structures located in Red Lane and Post Office Lane.
