Description

No. 20 Friday Street is a house that was originally two dwellings, dating from the 16th century with a 17th-century rear addition. It features a timber frame with plastered and painted brick infill set on a rubble plinth, topped by a renewed tile roof. The roof has an ashlar lateral stack with offsets and a brick stack at the front of the ridge.

The exterior has a gable facing the street, with the right end displaying close-studded framing. The first floor jetties out on flat joist ends, supported by a braced attic bressumer and wall plates. On the ground floor, there is a 3-light small-paned casement window, while the first floor has a similar 2-light casement. To the left side, there is a lateral stack that is also close-studded, and a later addition with square framing, which likely has a raised roof. This side features varied windows with 20th-century frames and a small light to the right of the stack.

The right side of the house has a four-window range, with two entrances that have 20th-century doors. The ground floor includes three windows with 20th-century casements, while the first floor has two small windows and two gabled half dormers, also with 20th-century casements. The interior has not been inspected.
