Description
No. 4 Datchworth Green is a house that was originally two dwellings, dating from the late 17th century and altered in 1929. The building features a timber frame with a roughcast exterior and a steeply pitched tiled roof that sweeps out at the eaves. It consists of three bays and is one storey high with an attic. The entrance is located to the left of the center and has a 20th-century gabled hood. There are three-light windows flanking the entrance and a two-light casement to the right, all with small panes and four-centred arched heads. An axial ridge stack is positioned behind the entrance, which has been partially rebuilt and features a vertical triangulated fillet. The right end of the house shows exposed plates and purlins, and there is a two-light casement in an early 20th-century angled projection. At the rear left, there is an early 20th-century lean-to outshut, with a shallow roof pitch and a cross casement in the return. The interior has not been inspected. The house is included for its group value.
