Description
Hawkins Hall Farm House is an early 15th-century hall range. It was floored and heated in the late 16th century. Wings were demolished following a fire in 1929, and an upper wing was rebuilt in the mid to late 20th century. The core structure is timber frame with brick or concrete block additions, all rendered. The roof is steeply pitched and tiled. The original hall range is two bays and one and a half storeys, with a cross wing of two storeys and an attic added in the 20th century. The left part of the hall range has been rebuilt as a through passage, located at the original upper end. A straight joint marks the original early bays, which have 3 and 2-light flush frame small-pane casements. There is a plinth. Two 3-light gabled dormers with small-pane casements are present; the one on the right is from the 19th century, the one on the left from the 20th century. An internal axial stack is at the right end, at the original lower end of the hall, with a rebuilt 18th-century cap. The right gable end features 2-light casements and exposed plates, along with a low 20th-century gabled outshut. The rear of the house has small-pane casements and a gabled 3-light dormer, as well as a 20th-century door. The 20th-century cross wing to the left projects and has a taller ridge, featuring similar casements. A link block connects the rear of the cross wing to a 19th-century red brick, slate-roofed dairy outbuilding. Internally, there is exposed timber framing with chamfered beams of large scantling, a moulded fireplace lintel, arched brace, a cambered tie beam, and 4-way struts to the crown post roof.
