Description

No. 3 Datchworth Green is a house that has been converted into a shop and dwelling. It dates from the 17th century and was altered and extended in the 18th century. The building features a timber frame that is rendered to look like ashlar, with some parts cased in red brick. It has a steeply pitched tiled roof and consists of two cells with a lobby entry and two rear wings, standing two storeys high.

On the ground floor, the entrance to the shop is located to the right of the centre, featuring a door that is half glazed and half fielded panelled. There are 19th-century shaped brackets supporting a moulded hood above the door. To the right, there is a shop window with small panes and a cornice. The left bay and the first floor on the right have three-light casements with flush frames and leaded glass, while the first floor has a central timber casement. The original central stack has been removed.

The right gable end is made of 18th-century red brick and continues onto a later lean-to outshut at the rear. The left gable end features a weatherboarded attic with a two-light casement, along with exposed plates and purlins. There is a glazed outshut on the ground floor with a 20th-century entrance. At the rear, two early gabled wings extend from the centre and left bays, both having weatherboarded attics and one and two-light small pane casements. A catslide roof covers the lean-to from the right bay. Inside, there is a stop-chamfered axial bearer.
