Description
No. 86 High Street is a house that has been converted into two shops. It dates back to the 17th century, with a refronting from the 18th century and later alterations and additions. The building features a timber frame that has been covered in roughcast brick, topped with a gabled tile roof, although the stack is not visible. It has an L-shaped plan.
The exterior is a single storey plus an attic and has a two-window range. There are two shop fronts with central entrances that have glazed doors, flanked by bay windows supported by colonnettes, and a canvas canopy above. The attic level includes two gables, each featuring a canted bay window with cornices and hipped roofs, which have late 20th-century uPVC glazing.
On the left gable, there is a County firemark. The left side of the building has brick walling with a tile offset and exposed timber framing above, as well as an entrance with an open gabled porch at the left end. The right side displays exposed square framing and has a long timber-framed rear wing that includes a blocked three-light mullioned window and various small-paned windows. There is also a 19th or 20th-century rear wing on the right. The interior has not been inspected.
