Description
94 and 96 High Street is a house that has been converted into offices and a flat. It dates from the 17th century, with 19th century and later alterations and additions. The building features a timber frame with plastered or roughcast infill and plastered brick, topped with renewed tile roofs. Originally designed in an H-plan, the building has been altered with underbuilding to the cross-wings and infill between the wings, resulting in a flush facade.
The exterior is two storeys plus an attic and has a three-window range. It features a central crenellated parapet on a plat band. The entrances have 20th century doors situated between three small-paned bow windows, with a large late 20th century fascia above. The first floor includes oriel windows on the wings; the left oriel has horned sashes in the configuration of 4/4:8/8:4/4, while the right oriel has horned sashes in the configuration of 1/1:10/10:1/1. The central window has an 8/8 sash set in a moulded frame. The gables have windows with two-light casements, featuring leaded glazing on the left and small panes on the right, along with a central gabled dormer that has a two-light casement.
The building's square framing features tall panels on the gables, and there is a bracket on the return that indicates a former jetty. The rear of the building has three brick gabled wings of varying lengths and stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
