Description

Herring House is a house that has been converted into offices and a flat. It dates from the early 19th century and features painted stucco on its exterior. The roof is hipped and covered with Welsh slate, with a tiled pitch at the rear, and there are no visible chimneys. The building has a central staircase plan and stands three storeys high with a three-window range.

The façade includes end pilaster strips, a top frieze, and a cornice. The entrance, located to the right of the centre, along with the left end entrance, features pilaster strips and cornices above 20th-century glazed doors. To the right of each entrance, there is a tripartite window; one has 4/4:8/8:4/4 sashes, while the other has 4/4:6/6:4/4 sashes. The first floor has windows with sills and architraves, featuring 8/8 sashes flanking a 6/6 sash, and the second floor has similar windows with 4/8 sashes flanking a 3/6 sash.

At the rear, there is a catslide tile roof over an outshut, which includes a central timber-framed stair wing. There is a long wing to the left and a half-gabled wing to the right, along with a central 20th-century single-storey flat-roofed addition. The interior has not been inspected, but it is noted to have exposed close-studded framing on the left return, likely part of the former White Swan Hotel, and a stick-baluster staircase.
