Description

The structure is a former whipping post located about 20 meters north of No. 15 on Datchworth Green. It dates from the 17th century and is made of timber, standing approximately 2 meters high and set in a concrete base topped with a pyramidal metal cap. On one side of the post, there are rough iron handcuffs shaped like an "M". A plaque attached to the post states, "This whipping post was last known to be used on July 27, 1665 when two vagabonds were publicly flogged here." The post is surrounded by a circular railed enclosure. No. 15 is not listed.
