Description
Mayfield Cottage is a detached cottage that dates back to the 15th century or earlier, with some 20th-century additions. The building features rendered stone and brick with a red tile roof and brick stacks. It has a rectangular main body and includes a 20th-century flat-roofed conservatory on the south side and a lean-to extension on the north side, which are not of special interest. The cottage is 1 and a half storeys tall and consists of two bays. The first floor is illuminated by two 3-light steel casement windows with horizontal glazing bars, while the ground floor has a 3-light steel casement window. The remainder of the south front is obscured by the conservatory. A full cruck truss is visible in the left gable end, and the house may contain two additional cruck trusses. There is also a 20th-century single light window in the left gable end, which is within the blocking of a former entrance. Inside, the cottage features deep chamfered tie beams with ovolo-moulded stops and triangular stops.
