Description

Moat Farm is a detached farmhouse with origins dating back to the 15th century or earlier, with later additions from the 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The building features a brick construction and a red tile roof with brick stacks, and it has an L-shaped plan. The 15th-century wing has been refaced in brick, while the 18th-century section extends forward on the right and includes a 20th-century lean-to extension along the right-hand wall. A block from the 17th to 19th centuries runs at right angles to the rear left. The main body from the 15th century is one and a half storeys high, while the 17th to 19th-century block is two storeys. The ground floor of the main body is illuminated by a 19th-century canted bay window, with a two-light 19th-century casement above it, all under a projecting tiled canopy supported by wooden brackets.

Inside, the farmhouse features at least four raised cruck trusses, a tie beam with a moulded soffit and diamond stops in the kitchen, wide joists with run-out stops, and an open fireplace with a moulded bressumer shaped like an almost flat Tudor arch. There are bar stops on the beams in the room with the canted bay, a round-headed doorway leading from the kitchen to the rear of the house, and intersecting beams with run-out and stepped stops in the rear left-hand wing. The building has axial lateral and gable-end stacks. It is listed primarily for its notable interior features.
