Description
Shuthonger Villa is a detached house built in the early to mid-19th century. It features a rendered brick exterior and a slate roof with brick stacks. The main structure has a rectangular plan, with a later extension added to the left gable end. There is a 20th-century flat-roofed extension at the rear, which is not of special interest. The main body of the house is two storeys high with a symmetrical facade that has three windows. The ground and first floors have sixteen-pane sash windows, each with stopped hoods above. The central entrance features a twelve-pane sash window above a fielded six-panel front door, which is flanked by simplified engaged Doric columns. These columns support a projecting frieze with a moulded capping. There is a decorative band between the ground and first floors, with pilasters set off from the corners of the facade. The band and pilasters have simple incised decoration. The roof is hipped, with stacks located within the hipped gable ends. The interior has not been inspected.
