Description
The Wilkins and Voyce monuments are two chest tombs located in the churchyard of the Church of St Bartholomew, approximately 9 meters south-west of the south-west corner of the aisle. These tombs date from the second decade of the 19th century and are made of stone.
The first tomb is for J. Wilkins, who died in 1811. Its lid is weathered to a point in each direction and features a step with a square edge, adorned with Greek key carving. The sides and ends have sunk panels with a swelling center, a moulded edge, and corner Doric columns, with the top two-thirds being fluted. It rests on a plain base with two steps. There is a later inscription added in 1844.
The second tomb is for Ann Voyce, who died in 1819, and is located to the south of the Wilkins tomb. It is similar in design but has three steps to its base, with the lowest step originally supporting iron railings. This tomb has a brick plinth, with a cambered arch visible on the east side at ground level. A later inscription was added in 1849. Both monuments feature good lettering.
