Description

The Wilkins Monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 10 metres south of the southwest angle of the transept of the Church of St Nicholas. It dates from the mid to later 18th century and is constructed of ashlar stone. The north side features a large framed oval plaque at the raised center, which is flanked by fielded panels. The south side also has a raised fielded plaque with fielded panels on either side. The tomb has baluster corners and a moulded base and cornice, with a pulvinated frieze that is broken forward over the center. The inscription on the monument is dedicated to Sarah Wilkins.
