Description

A group of three chest tombs from the 18th century is located north of the tower of the Church of St Nicholas in Bromham. The tombs are made of ashlar stone.

The first tomb, known as the Gaby memorial, dates to the mid-18th century and features two raised plaques on each side, a fielded panelled centre, angle piers, a moulded base, and a moulded cornice with a pulvinated frieze that is broken forward over the piers. The south side has an inscription dedicated to Elizabeth Gaby, who died in 1806.

The second tomb is an unidentified memorial, also from the mid-18th century, and has two raised octagonal plaques on each side, fielded panelled angle piers, and foliate decoration on the centre pier. It includes a moulded base and cornice, which is broken forward over the piers, along with arched-headed raised end plaques.

The third tomb is another unidentified memorial from the mid-18th century, featuring two shield plaques on each side, fluted pilasters at the angles, floral ornamentation on the centre pier, and a moulded base and cornice with a pulvinated frieze that is broken forward over the piers.
