Description

Two chest tombs, dating from the mid 18th century and early 19th century, are located west of the churchyard path, south of the southwest corner of the Church of St Nicholas in Bromham. The first tomb, the Hancock memorial from the mid 18th century, features two shield plaques on each side, fluted pilasters at the center and corners, and a moulded base and cornice that is broken forward over the pilasters. There is an armorial cartouche at the east end, along with an inscription dedicated to William Hancock. The second tomb, the Burten memorial from the early 19th century, has two plaques on each side, a recessed center, and angle piers with husk drops at the corners, as well as paired husk drops at the center pier. It also has a moulded base and cornice with a fluted frieze that is broken forward over the plaques, featuring an inscription to John Burten.
