Description

The Wilks Monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard approximately 9 meters south-west of the Church of St. Michael. It is dated 1815 and 1820 and is made of grey sandstone. The tomb features reeded mouldings at the base and side returns of the end panels, which include a raised lozenge panel. The side inscription panels have raised borders with quadrant corners. The monument has heavy rounded mouldings at both the base and top, with pyramid weathering on the top. The south side is inscribed to Jane, the wife of Thomas Wilks, who died in 1815, while the north side is inscribed to Thomas Wilks, who died in 1820.
