Description
Brimpsfield Park is a large country house built in the 17th century and rebuilt in the 18th century. It features a combination of ashlar and rubble limestone, with a rubble plinth from an earlier house, and has a stone slate roof with ashlar chimneys that have moulded caps. The building is designed in an L-shape and has a doorway located in the angle. It consists of two storeys with an attic, and the windows are generally irregular, featuring 2-light recessed chamfered mullioned windows without hood moulding. There is a 3-light window on the ground floor of the west wing and a single light window on the upper floor. A 19th-century glazed outshut passage leads to the front doorway. The house has four hipped dormers facing south and west, and the north elevation has three windows with a square flat-roofed central porch that has a single light above it, while the roof is hipped in the northeast corner. The east elevation has two 18th-century sash windows but has been greatly altered. There is an attached outbuilding at the south end.
Inside, there is a small panelled room from the early 17th century that features a chimney-piece with fluted pilasters, dentil courses, and raised lozenge decoration. Some of the panelling has been removed from Brimpsfield House. A larger room is panelled in the 18th century, and there is a timber staircase from the early 17th century with turned balusters. The kitchen has heavy timber beams and posts, and there is a tunnel vaulted corridor in the cellar.
