Description
The Wilks Monument is a short chest tomb located in the churchyard, approximately 11 meters north of the northeast corner of the chancel at the Church of St. Mary. It commemorates William Wilks, who died in 1793, and is made of stone. The tomb features a flat lid with a moulded edge and sides that have raised rectangular panels, also with moulded edges. It is adorned with elongated Roman Doric pilasters that have a base and a fielded panel on the stem. The plinth has a moulded top, and the inscription is notable for its good lettering, with the first line presented in copperplate scrolling.
