Description

Stanbrook Farmhouse is a brick farmhouse dating from the second quarter of the 19th century, with a rear wing from the 18th century. The front of the house is built with Flemish bond brickwork, a stone plinth, and a slate roof. It has a three-bay, two-storey design, while the rear wing is two bays wide, two and a half storeys high, and one room deep. The main entrance is a central six-panel door, the top two panels glazed and the rest fielded, with a semi-circular fanlight above. This is set within a covered, rendered porch with an open end, recessed panel sides, corniced base to the corners, and a flat roof. On either side of the door are sixteen-pane sash windows, each with a rubbed brick arch featuring dummy joints in alternating bricks. The first floor windows are similar, with the central window being a standard sash. The eaves have a flat soffit and the roof is hipped with end chimneys. The right return front end is plain, while the two-bay rear wing is set back and features a two-and-a-half storey design. A leanto extends along the front of the rear wing, with a boarded door in a recess up one stone step on the left. Two two-light casement windows are also present. A corrugated-iron leanto is not considered of particular architectural interest. The first floor of the rear wing has a two-light casement on the left and a similar window on the right, with leaded lights and a cambered brick arch. A second-floor window has two lights and dentil eaves, with a hipped end and a chimney. The rear wing is the same height as the front.
