Description
The Staunton War Memorial is a First World War memorial that was erected in 1921 and later altered to include two additional names after the Second World War. It is made of granite and features a Latin cross on a tapering square plinth, which sits on a two-stepped base. The plinth has recessed faces that display incised inscriptions.
On the north face of the plinth, the inscription reads "IN GRATITUDE TO THOSE WHO FOUGHT IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918. FALLEN" followed by nine names. The other faces list a total of 48 names under the heading "FOREIGN SERVICE." Additionally, the east face includes two names under "HOME SERVICE" and one name of a soldier who fell during the Second World War.
The memorial is situated on an area covered with slate chippings, which is enclosed by kerbstones and iron railings, within a larger field. A pathway leads to the memorial for access.
