Description
Noake Court Farm barn is a mid-18th century structure featuring wide weatherboarding on timber framing, with a gable made of English garden wall bond brick and a tiled roof. The barn is designed as a three-unit building with a porch on one side. The gable facing the road has a stone plinth and brick above, adorned with three diamond-shaped grouped air vents and stone copings at the parapet gable.
On the left side, there is a short section of brick wall on the right and a high brick plinth, with boarding above it. A projecting porch on the left contains double boarded doors in the gable wall, with three holes above in the gable. The lower plinth on the left indicates that the ground slopes up from the road, and there is a pitching-hole with the left gable being timber-framed.
Inside, the barn consists of five bays, lacking an intermediate rail in the framing, with long braces connecting to the corner posts and posts near the threshing floor. Timber ties are positioned on either side of the threshing floor at the level of the top of the sill wall, which is open below except for a central timber prop. Long braces rise to the tie beam of the truss, angled towards the center. The trusses feature angle struts, two pairs of purlins, and a plank ridge, with long wind braces from the wall plate cutting through the rafters. There is no evidence of a dovecote in the porch. A loft was inserted in one half during the 20th century, making this barn a good example of a late type of timber-framed barn.
