Description
Hucclecote Mews is a house, now converted into flats for the elderly, dating from around 1835, with 20th-century additions and alterations. The building is constructed of brick covered in painted stucco, featuring scribed masonry joints and painted stone details, and has slate roofs that are mostly hipped with boxed eaves, along with a large gable at the rear and gabled dormers. It has brick stacks and is designed as a double-depth block with a short wing on the front left and another short wing set back on the left side, along with a 20th-century wing set back on the right side.
The exterior consists of two storeys and an attic, with an offset plinth and a raised band at the first-floor level. The symmetrical front has three bays to the right of the wing. The ground floor features an entrance doorway in the central bay, approached by a flight of stone steps and framed by Ionic columns and an entablature. The doorway contains a timber frame with sidelights and a six-panel door. On each side of the doorway are sash windows, and on the first floor, there are three sashes. The front of the wing has a sash on each floor, all featuring a single central glazing bar and side margin glazing bars, set in openings with projecting stone sills. Above the central bay, there is a roof dormer with a pediment gable and a pair of casements. The left-hand side has similar sashes on each floor.
At the rear, the extended ground floor includes a canted bay on the right-hand side, with a doorway featuring French doors to the left of the canted bay, three sashes to the left, and a sash on each face of the bay with side margin glazing bars. On the first floor, under the gable to the left, there is a central narrow sash with margin glazing bars and a wider sash on each side with glazing bars (4x4 panes), along with a sash with margin bars on the side of the wing to the right. In the gable, there are a pair of sashes with glazing bars (3x4 panes). The interior has not been inspected.
