Description

Dunston Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with alterations from the 19th century and an extension added in the late 20th century. It features brick-nogged timber framing set on a painted brick plinth, with painted brickwork and a shingle roof. The cottage is three bays wide and one and a half stories tall.

On the road side, the framing consists of two panels high, with an angle brace connecting to the wallplate from the main posts, and only one way from the post by the door. The plinth is painted to resemble a shallow panel of framing, and the older windows are from the 19th century. There is a two-light casement window on the left, along with a fully-glazed, late 20th-century gabled porch that has a stone-slate roof, and another two-light casement window. The right bay has brickwork painted to look like timber-framing, with a two-light late 20th-century casement window.

The cottage has three lean-to dormers, each with two-light casements, and a ridge chimney located one bay from the right, with an external chimney on the left gable. On the left return, there is a two-light casement window on the ground floor, and above it, a tie-beam truss with two collars, along with another two-light casement window. The top part of the gable is faced with shingles. Originally, the cottage was a two-bay structure, likely half-hipped, before being extended by one bay in the late 20th century.
