Description
The Old Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with later alterations and additions. It is constructed with a timber frame and painted brick nogging, topped with a plain tile roof. The building consists of one framed bay and has one storey with an attic. There is an external painted brick end stack on the right side and a central 20th-century flat-topped eaves dormer featuring two 2-light casements. The framing displays square panels, with three panels extending from the sole-plate to the wall-plate, and long straight tension braces. On the right side, there is a mid- to late 19th-century two-light wooden casement window. The central entrance features a half-glazed 20th-century door and a gabled porch, which includes a window at the front and a boarded door on the left-hand return front. To the right, there is a late 20th-century flat-roofed one-storey addition with a 3-light casement window at the front. Inside, the complete timber frame is still intact, making it a notable example of a one-unit cottage.
