Description
The Old Vicarage is a house dating from the late 16th century or 17th century, with some alterations and additions made in the late 20th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and features painted brick nogging on a rubble plinth, along with painted brick additions and a plain tile roof. The building has a 'Hall' range consisting of two framed bays, with a gabled flush cross-wing to the north of one bay, and later additions.
Originally, there was an integral brick end stack at the rear of the cross-wing, which has been changed to a ridge stack due to the addition. The framing consists of square panels, with four panels extending from the sole-plate to the wall-plate, and short straight braces. On the north front, there are two 20th-century casements on the first floor and a 20th-century casement to the right on the ground floor. To the left, there is a small porch, probably from the late 19th century, and an outbuilding at right angles, which has an integral brick end stack, a segmental-headed two-light casement at the front, and a pair of boarded doors on the right-hand return front.
A large 20th-century gabled addition projects at right angles to the right, featuring an integral brick end stack and two three-light segmental-headed casements on each floor. Inside the cross-wing gable-end, a collar and tie-beam truss with queen-struts and V-struts is exposed. The main entrance to the house is now located on the west side.
