Description
This is a house located at 3 Caernarvon Road, dating from the late 16th century or 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid to late 19th century. The structure is timber framed, with weatherboarding on the right side and painted brick nogging on the left. It has been partially rebuilt and refaced in painted brick, topped with a corrugated iron roof over thatch. The building has a T-plan layout, featuring a hall range and a gabled cross-wing to the left. It has one storey and an attic, with a central brick ridge stack. The framing consists of square panels, and the cross-wing displays a collar and tie-beam truss with queen-struts and V-struts visible in the gable. The cross-wing has one late 19th-century two-light wooden casement window on each floor and a boarded door to the left. There is a late 19th-century brick outhouse that projects at right angles to the right of the cross-wing, which has an integral end stack and a boarded door on the left-hand return front. The 'hall' range to the right is unfenestrated. The framing is exposed from the sole-plate to the wall-plate at the rear of the cross-wing. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
