Description

Garden Cottage is a mid-to-late 17th-century cottage located in Withington. It is a timber-framed building with painted brick nogging and a plain tile roof. The original design comprised two framed bays, and it is a single storey with an attic. Brick end stacks are integrated into the structure. Two large gabled eaves dormers, dating to the late 19th or 20th century, feature 3-light metal casement windows. The timber framing is characterized by large square panels, three from the sole-plate to the wall-plate, with long, straight tension braces. A porch with a turned baluster support was added to the right of the central boarded door, extending from the left side of the cottage, along with two large square bays with slate roofs. A 20th-century brick lean-to was added to the left, featuring a boarded door to the front. The interior includes chamfered ceiling beams.
