Description

The Old School House is a former school that has been converted into a small house. It dates back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the late 18th century and late 20th century. The building features timber-framing with rendered panels, a stone gable facing the road, and a rendered gable on the opposite side. It has a thatched roof, with stone slates used for the porch and dormer.

The structure consists of three bays and is one room deep, standing at one and a half storeys. The gable facing the road has a rough render on the stonework and a ridge chimney, while the end of the right return is made of unrendered stone. The timber-framing is three panels high, and there is a tall, two-light window that nearly reaches the floor, with standard height two-light casements on either side.

On the right side, there is a lean-to porch with a boarded door facing the road and irregularly shaped windows. The original framing on this side has been renewed with spindly timbers, featuring a four-light casement and a long brace extending from the sill to the stud, with two braces from the end. An original end post has a brace connecting to the wall plate. Above the porch, there is a two-light casement in the lean-to dormer, and the ridge chimney is located on the right gable. All the windows on the right return have leaded lights. The building is noted to have served as a school from 1740 to 1870.
