Description

CHURCHDOWN PIRTON LANE SO 82 SE 6/24 Barn, Pirton Court GV II Barn. Probably C17 but may be older; altered C18, C20. Timber framed, part brick nogged, part wide boarding, stone plinth; English garden wall bond brickwork; double-Roman tile roof. Five bays. To road: right bay part brick wall: framing on left, bottom 2 panels brick nogged, boarding to top panel: 2-light casement. To left, brick nogging only bottom panel, boarding top 2: sill appears to run through full length. Left gable: upper part weatherboarded, lower hidden by buildings not of special interest. To yard right bay rebuilt brickwork: former double boarded doors to eaves, opening onto threshing floor: right door now (1987) replaced by weatherboarded framing. Threshing floor appears to have had doors only on one side, as moat may have been between other side and road. Next bay to left brick, with post and short brace to wall plate by doors. Last 2 bays on left not seen: interior not accessible. Brick extension towards drive not of special interest. Forms group with Pirton Court (q.v.).
