Description
The barn at Yew Tree Farm is a 17th-century structure that underwent alterations in the late 18th century and mid-20th century. It features a rubble stone plinth, brick-nogged timber-framing, and a brick gable on the left return, topped with a tiled roof. The barn is three bays wide, with the framing consisting of three panels high and angle struts connecting the main posts to the wallplate. There are double boarded doors facing the road, which are offset towards the left of the center bay and stop one panel short of the eaves. The right return has timber-framing with a brick plinth, a shuttered opening, and angle braces supporting the tie-beam. The gable above has been rebuilt in brick and includes a ventilation slit. The center doors originally filled the entire bay and rose to the eaves before the mid-20th century; at that time, the roof was altered to be half-hipped and partly thatched. Both gables were rebuilt above the tie-beam level, with the left gable completely redone, and the brickwork painted in the mid-20th century. The purlins were renewed, and the plinth may have been rebuilt as well. The interior has not been inspected. This barn is included mainly for its group value, as it forms a group with Yew Tree Farmhouse and Apperley House.
