Description
Ringer's Cottage is a former farmhouse, now a house, dating from the 15th and 17th centuries, with alterations made in the late 20th century. The building is timber-framed with painted brick nogging or rendered infill and features a thatched roof. It has two bays and is one room deep, standing at 1½ storeys tall. The gable faces the entrance gate and includes a cruck truss with 2-panel high framing on the ground floor, and paired 2-light 20th-century casement windows. The upper floor has similar windows under the collar. The right return shows light framing for a half-bay on the left and heavier framing on the right, which includes a long brace sill to the wall post and a single-light window. The roof rises at the junction between the bays, with framing that is 3 panels high and angle braces to the wallplate. There are three 2-light casements and a swept dormer, with a chimney on the ridge just short of the right gable. Inside, a timber-framed cross wall relates to the framing at the far end of the house, and the only surviving cruck is located in the gable. Ringer's Cottage forms a group with an outbuilding nearby.
