Description

Perton Court is a farmhouse, likely dating from the late 17th or 18th century, with alterations made in the early and late 19th centuries and the mid-20th century. The main portion of the building is roughcast on a stone base, with some areas of plain render designed to resemble ashlar. Brickwork is visible, using both English bond and English garden wall bond patterns, and some areas are painted. The roofs are tiled.

The farmhouse has an irregular plan. The front of the building, facing the garden, has three windows and is two rooms deep, with two and two-and-a-half storeys. A single-bay, two-storey extension, three rooms deep, is attached to one end. A parallel range of two storeys and three windows runs across the courtyard, towards the road, with a roofed walk connecting the two sections.

The courtyard's south side features two gables; the first has a plain string at first floor level, and the second is narrower with a four-pane window on the ground floor and a two-light casement above. A cambered head is above the window, and a ridge chimney is on the gable. A larger chimney is set back in the valley between the gables, with a further chimney beyond on the cross-roofed section. A low, roughcast wall runs across the front of the courtyard, with steps leading up to an opening.

The return facing the courtyard has a single bay on the left, with two-light casements on each floor, the upper ones with cambered heads. To the right is a taller range, also roughcast, with a boarded door, painted stone quoins, and a sixteen-pane sash window beneath an open walk. Above the sixteen-pane sash window is a left gable above the lower wing, featuring a two-light casement. Wide verges are also visible. A projecting wing has a painted brick gable facing the yard, featuring an opening with a timber lintel, and heavy timberwork on the first floor and the base of the low-pitched gable.

The open walk, with a pitched roof, is three-bayed, with timber posts, hip ends, curved iron ties, and an iron king post at the bay divisions. It links to an open lean-to on the back of the parallel wing on the right, which has painted brickwork, a two-light casement, and an external chimney. The gable has plain render lined as ashlar, with a ridge chimney.

The right return, facing the road, has plain brickwork, with two three-light casements on the ground floor and a possible blocked opening between them. Above these are a three-light mullion and transom window, a boarded door, and a four-pane window.

The site was formerly moated and described as a manor house. The building forms a group with a nearby barn. The interior was not accessible at the time of listing.
