Description
Southend Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dating from the 17th century, which was extensively rebuilt around 1800. The front is roughcast, while the sides and rear are constructed from random rubble marlstone and limestone. It features brick chimneys set on stone bases, and the front roof slope is covered with stone slate, while the rear has replacement tiles. The building is two stories high with an attic, and it has a rear outshut and a single-storey rear wing that together form an L-shape.
The front elevation has five windows, all of which are 12-pane sash windows. There is a central doorway with a moulded flat porch hood supported by shaped brackets, leading to a six-panel fielded door with a rectangular light above. At the time of the survey in September 1985, the front was covered in creeper. The south end of the farmhouse features a single off-centre small-paned casement window on both the ground and upper floors, along with two casements in the attic. The right wing is made of rubble marlstone and has mixed casement windows, including three small-paned attic casements in gabled roof dormers. Each end of the wing has a brick chimney mounted on the ridge.
The rear of the farmhouse has painted random rubble walls with scattered casement windows, all featuring timber lintels. Inside, there is a late 17th-century staircase with turned balusters. The farmhouse is part of a group that includes a barn to the southwest.
