Description

School Cottage is a detached cottage dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of squared rubble with a stone slate roof. The cottage sits across a slope, with a gable facing the road; a large window is situated at the upper end, potentially indicating a former schoolroom. To the road, a two-light casement window is set into the gable. Facing west, a full-height gable is positioned off-centre to the right. The cottage has two storeys and an attic, featuring a large three-light transomed casement window under a hood-mould. A plank door is situated within a chamfered surround and deep lintel, accompanied by a two-light casement beneath a stepped hood. At the first floor, there are two two-light casements with hoods, and a single one-light window in the gable. All the casement windows have recessed chamfer stone mullions. A gable stack is located at the lower end, along with a small lean-to addition. The rear elevation has a two-light casement window at the eaves. A continuous lean-to with a stack along the back is present but not considered of special interest.
