Description
Fortunes Well is a building that consists of three cottages, which have been combined into one house. It dates from the 17th century and the 19th century. The earlier section, located near the road, is constructed from squared and coursed limestone with a stone slate front and a concrete tile roof slope at the rear. The later unit features an ashlar front and a rubble back, with similar roof materials. The narrow range is set across the slope and gable to the road, with the ridge of the lower unit being much lower. This lower unit also has a stair extension and a return wing.
The building has two storeys and an attic, with one window on the lower unit and two on the higher unit. The higher section has 2-light recessed chamfered stone mullioned casements under hoods, along with a 20th-century door in a chamfered surround with a hood. The lower unit features 2-light recessed chamfer casements without hoods, leading to the top left, and a 2-light wooden casement in a former door opening, as well as two gabled 2-light dormers from the 19th century. There is also a 20th-century glazed door on the right side. The rear has two 2-light casements with hoods, and the gable facing the road has a small single light with a hood-mould in the attic. The building has three ridge stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
