Description

Church Orchard is a detached house that dates from the 18th century or earlier. It is built of coursed and squared limestone, with rubble on the right return and a stone slate roof. The house is set across a slope and features a high gable facing the road. There is a lower extension at the upper end and a one-storey return to the left, which is fronted by a conservatory. Large extensions to the right of the main block are not considered to be of special interest.

The entrance front, which also faces the slope, is two storeys high with an attic and has two windows. On the ground floor, there are two 2-light windows and a central plank door set in a chamfered surround, with hood-moulds above. The hood-mould over the door continues over the window to the left. Above, there are two 2-light windows and two vertical elliptical oculi, along with two small 2-light gabled dormers. Facing the road, there are 3-light windows on both the ground and first floors, and a 2-light window in the gable. All these casements are recessed with chamfered mullions and hood-moulds, featuring a horizontal bar on the casements. The rear of the house has 2-light recessed chamfer casements on both the ground and first floors, without hoods, and a small stair-light on the far right. There is also a large central 3-light 20th-century gabled face dormer and gable stacks. The interior has not been inspected, but it likely features a fireplace and an adjacent spiral stair at the far end.
