Description
Bayliss House is a building that was originally two houses, now combined into one. It likely dates from the 18th century, with modifications made in the 19th and late 20th centuries. The structure is made of coursed and squared limestone, featuring a stone slate front roof and a concrete tile back roof. It stands two storeys high with attics and has a symmetrical facade with four windows on each side. All windows are three-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements with leaded glass and stopped hoods, along with four two-light hipped dormers that also have leaded casements.
The left side of the building has a central six-panel door, with four fielded panels, set in a chamfered surround topped with a peaked head and an open pedimented hood. The right side features a 20th-century porch and stable door, with a blocked opening to the left. There is a large central brick chimney stack and smaller gable stacks. The left return has a two-light casement under a hood and a blocked opening, which was originally a three-light unit. The left half of the house has a lean-to extension at the back. The gable end facing the road is plain and includes a single-storey extension.
Inside, there are some 18th-century stairs, a good A-frame, a two-purlin roof with 20th-century rafters, and modified fireplaces.
