Description
Malt House is a detached house dating back to the 17th century, located on The Green in Sheepscombe. The building is constructed of squared and coursed limestone with a stone slate roof; the right gable wall has been rebuilt. It is two and a half storeys high and has three windows on the front elevation. The windows are recessed chamfer mullioned casements with 1, 2, and 2 lights respectively, with hoods over the ground-floor windows, and a cut-back string over a plank door within a chamfered surround on the right side of the building. A three-light flush gable dormer is present on the roof. Attached to the left is a single-storey extension with a three-light recessed chamfer mullion casement. The rear elevation features a two-light casement on both the ground and first floors, positioned approximately centrally, and a plank door with a small single light above it to the right. A stack is visible on the left gable. The interior is not documented, but is reported to contain a stone spiral stair, chamfered beams, and a good 18th-century fireplace. The building represents a remarkably unaltered survival.
