Description
Rambler Cottage is a small two-room cottage located on Church Hill in Sheepscombe. It dates from the early 18th century and has some modifications from the 19th century. The cottage is built from squared and coursed limestone and features a stone slate roof. It is a single storey with an attic, showcasing a two-light chamfered stone mullioned casement window on the ground floor to the left, and another in the half-gable at the centre above a plank door. The left side of the cottage has two small attic lights beside a brick stack, while the right side has a two-light chamfered mullion casement window in the gable, indicating the line of an earlier roof profile. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is noted that the door leads directly to a parlour, which has a timber-framed partition wall. Beyond this, at a lower level, is a scullery with a timber spiral stair. Rambler Cottage is a modest agricultural cottage that appears to have remained largely unaltered since the 19th century, reflecting the social changes in the area.
